Outdoor Plants Grown Artificially In Containers

In principle, the best way to provide nutrients to established garden plants growing in the soil, is to add on a consistent basis, organic matter in the form of compost. For as well being a source of the mineral nutriment essential to plant growth, organic matter improves and develops the health of the habitat in which the plants grow, namely the soil. There are circumstances though when the use of chemical fertilizer is preferable to compost. One of these relates to plants grown in pots. As there are a number of methods by which chemical fertilizer can be applied, the question arises as to which is the most appropriate.

Plants in pots or containers must always be grown in some form of artificial potting medium, in order to ensure the correct air/moisture balance in the root zone. One such medium, highly regarded by landscape professionals today, is Perlite, which amongst its various properties, excels both in its capacity to retain moisture on the one hand, and sufficient oxygen on the other. Chemically, it is almost entirely inert, which is an advantage in one sense, as the problem of salt build-up is avoided. Yet the other side of the coin is that mineral nutrient is liable to be entirely lacking for the plants, unless supplied on a constant basis. This is why regular applications of chemical fertilizer are necessary. How though should it be applied?

Clearly, the old method of manually spooning readily soluble fertilizer is impractical at least in the case of Perlite,as the work would have to be carried out every few days or so. An elegant way round this is by installing an automatic fertilizer pump, where a specially balanced blend of liquid fertilizer is injected through the drip irrigation lines. Today, the pumps are calibrated by the manufacturer so that low and safe concentrations are supplied to the plant's roots, during every watering. Watering a bit to excess on each occasion ensures that the salinity of the medium is kept in check.

Despite its many benefits, there are a number of drawbacks to this method, not least of which, is the legal obligation required by most countries to install an instrument preventing the backflow of water. However in Mediterranean climates, typified by hot dry summers, and mild cool and wet winters, there is another disadvantage with fertilizer pumps, which should be considered.

It is often forgotten that the garden plants require some access to nutrients during the mild Mediterranean winter, albeit at greatly reduced levels. For plants growing in the ground, the compost added in the autumn should suffice. When it comes to containers however, especially if the potting medium used is a chemically inert product like Perlite, it is necessary to ensure that a supply of fertilizer is available to the plants. As fertilizer pumps supply the nutrients via the irrigation system, one is forced to open the taps, even if the plants do not need watering. Baring in mind that Perlite can hold sufficient moisture during the winter for a good 3-4 weeks, it follows that this great water conserving benefit is lost.

It is for this reason amongst others, that I advocate the use of slow release fertilizer as the principle means of feeding pot plants that are grown outdoors. (The hydroponic method applicable to indoor plants requires a different type of fertilizing) There are a number of products available, which release the nutrients over periods of time ranging from 3 to 12 months, thereby reducing labor to a couple of times a year or less. Many brands also contain trace elements, which are generally not lacking in garden soils, but may well be so in the artificial potting media.

Artificial Flowers Arrangement For Better Decorations

A lot of people think that an artificial flower arrangements is a very stupid idea. They do not see any value at all in silk flowers, arguing that half of the fun of flowers is that there are vibrant and alive. Although a real flower bouquet has a lot of drawbacks, such as wilting, requiring care, lasting only a short period of time, and eventually getting flower petals all over the floor, these people still think that all of the inconvenience is worth it, because they see no worth in artificial flowers. But in my opinion, this type of snobbery is silly. The point of flowers, after all, is to cheer you up. The only difference between real flowers in artificial flowers, as far as I am concerned, is that artificial flowers can do this for a whole lot longer.

Of course, artificial flowers do not look quite like real flowers, but they have gotten better and better. As far as I can tell, there are many people out there who can not tell the difference when you see it. They look at an artificial flower arrangements and be quite sure that it is the real deal. Until, that is, they look very closely at it and discover that the flowers are actually artificial flowers. Often, the only thing that tips people off to the fact that they are looking at artificial flowers, is the absence of the mess that characterizes a real bouquet. They will notice that there is no water in the face, or that there are no flower petals on the ground. If this is the biggest difference between real flowers and artificial flowers, I think that the choice is clear. After all, who needs all of that mess and bother, when it can be so easily avoided?

Nowadays, I will never send a real flower arrangement to someone when they seem to be feeling down. I almost always send artificial flowers instead. While real flowers will make them feel better for a little while and then dies slowly, making a mess all over the floor, artificial flowers will last forever. They will continue to provide joy and happiness, lighting up the room and increasing the cheer in good spirits of all who are inside of it. Although artificial flowers do not have the romantic qualities of real flowers, they do have one quality that really goes far to characterize true love: they last for ever and ever.

Standard Artficial Plants With Designs

I have always loved growing things. I love everything about plants, you see. I love growing them and watching them grow wild. I love the way they smell, the way they look, and the way they feel when I touch them. I love growing my own tomatoes as well as sampling my neighbor Violet's fresh apples. On the other hand, I can not stand anything artificial and manufactured. I really hate all of the neatly manicured lawns all over suburban America. I can not stand the way that the same grass has been set as the standard of ground cover all over. But more than anything, I hate artificial trees.

Oh, I know that the artificial tree has come a long way. They used to be obviously manufactured, but nowadays it is hard to tell artificial outdoor plants from other ones without getting right up to them. But this very manufactured perfection of artificial outdoor plants is precisely what makes them so disgusting in my opinion. You see, a really fake artificial outdoor plant is one thing. It is meant to evoke nature and imitate it, but it pays tribute to the superiority of the natural world by its own imperfection. Being obvious forgeries, badly made artificial outdoor plants only make the real ones look that much better.

But, thanks to advances in plastics and design, artificial outdoor plants have gotten better and better. From artificial Christmas trees to plastic Japanese maples, they now have an eerie proximity to the real thing. And it is precisely this verisimilitude that bugs me so much. Modern artificial outdoor plants, being more perfect than the actual real ones, aim to supplant nature. The goal of artificial outdoor plants is to resemble the real ones as precisely as possible without having any of the inconveniences of authentic growing things. And in this perfect resemblance, they aim to replace nature.

It is hard for me to get at how much this chills me and why. Either you will understand it or you will not. To me – and I suspect to any lover of nature – it is much like a horror movie. Imagine a factory decided that it would be cheaper to make robot people who did not need to eat or sleep, and put them on the street to replace real people. This is what the spread of artificial outdoor plants looks like to me. It has all of the appearance of life without any of the vibrancy.
